I really can’t resist this story. A new mobile game that offers a look inside the “universe” of Paris Hilton is being launched in India. The game is the first mobile game to carry her branding, and has been available from Gameloft for some time now. But the new deal with India’s Reliance Mobile will see it hit India for the first time – and the reaction hasn’t been astounding.
What’s the game?
It’s a puzzle game, based on collecting gems and jewels for the celebrity heiress. It also “rewards” players with photo’s of Paris and her dog-rat thing, Tinkerbell. It was developed by French company Gameloft, and the deal with Reliance was announced this week.
From the release:
Krishna Durbha, Head – VAS, Reliance Communications: “Our tie-up with Gameloft is part of our strategy to strengthen our gaming portfolio. Indians love celebrities and movies. Through these unique offerings, we are making sure that our subscribers derive added excitement by not only playing games on their Reliance Mobile but also play games based on super-hit Hollywood movies and world famous celebrities.”
What we think?
Rajan Zed is an Indo-American statesman, respected in the US. According to News Blaze, he’s not very happy about what this game represents. While happy about new trade possibilities and markets, he had choice comments about India suffering “reckless flooding” from Western icons and values.
Over-reaction? Somewhat, I would say. But that’s easy for me to say, as Ireland is already highly Americanised. But if you were from an ancient and distinct culture, I can’t imagine you’d be too pleased to see the youth of your country hunched over a game glorifying Paris Hilton.
