Publisher Prinovis teams with NeoMedia to add mobile barcodes to its print offering

Prinovis is a pretty big printing agency. It handles huge print numbers for photos, catalogues and magazines, and other mass print jobs. It has now announced that it will be offering to print 2d barcodes for mobile services on any product it creates.

Prinovis is partnered with  Gavitec AG (a branch of NeoMedia) for this launch, so the codes will be Data Matrix (thanks, streetstylz!). The actual application of these codes, it leaves up to the individual client, but it suggests things like Tagging, Coupons, Loyalty… the usual.

What we think?

Prinovis is one of the biggest publishing concerns in Germany – and it handles print jobs from pre-print and planning through to distribution. Getting a company that big on-side for mobile barcodes is a pretty big deal.

    Cian,

Can you share information about the time of this product launch? Judging by the wording from the official press release, it may already be “live”, but are there any working examples you know of? Also, how do you know that prinovis will offer this service on “any product it creates”? I am sure 2d barcodes will spread like wildfire once finally introduced commercially, and if true this might be the moment the industry has been waiting for so long. That would indeed be a substantial deal for Neomedia!

    From the official press release:
    http://www.prinovis.com/en/home.php?block1=true

“Mobile Services add punch to print. Printed products become interactive thanks to 2D Codes. Prinovis now offers its customers a revolutionary linking of print, online and mobile: its new Mobile Solutions line of business adds interactivity to catalogues, magazines and ads, for innovative new marketing and communication campaigns…”

    streetstylz,

they also mention QR codes in the press release (see link below). Would it make a difference whatever open format is used?
