Yesterday I had a fresh and delightful chat with Anthony Ashbrook from Mobile Acuity – a mobile visual search company based in Scotland. We spoke at length about mobile search, current patents and ambitions of creating the ultimate visual search engine. I am going to write two pieces on this one for the Mobile Search Analyst with the vision of the future and a competitive piece on companies such as Craze, DSPV etc stack up against each other. The other will be for The Mobile Advertising and Marketing Analyst as it focuses on how Mobile Acuity is using visual search and marketing to stay alive in the competitive market.

In fact, so far from what I have seen Mobile Acuity is the only mobile visual search company putting fun and interaction into mobile marketing. We talked in depth about some mobile trials and services and some new features revolving around football. Basically Mobile Acuity has “hot spot” visual technology that allows users not merely to take pictures of a poster (to receive content) but to take shots of part of the poster. This means that campaigns can be run where users guess the placement of a football near a goal, or a cricket ball, basket ball etc. Users find out instantly if they win and if they do they can be sent cash redeemable vouchers in the form of barcodes via MMS instantly.

I realise this is just a quick overview - but check the company out - two big deals are in the pipeline…

I will be meeting Anthony shortly to test the services myself and I am looking forward to it – these services are exactly what are needed for mobile search and discovery services to fuel growth and more importantly drive marketing and advertising dollars; to create pockets of thriving mobile interactive communities.
