Putting an end to costly calls might be a Movirtu

Movirtu’s CloudPhone is a no-brainer for MNOs

On the surface of it, a clever new piece of software from Movirtu – CloudPhone looks as if it has only a simple application. Namely, to enable mobile devices without a SIM card slot -laptops & tablets, etc, to make regular calls over a cellular network. However, as an app CloudPhone has enormous potential for MNOs [Mobile Network Operators]. It can help operators provide coverage to their subscribers without the need for new network infrastructure or femtocells. Effectively it brings revenues back to the MNO which would otherwise have been lost to VoIP service providers such as Skype. Better still the service can be accessed via an Android or iOS app or alternatively via a web browser.

GoMo News made these interesting discoveries via a cozy little chat with an old friend – Carsten Brinkschulte, who is currently CEO with Movirtu.

Carsten Brinkschulte is very familiar with the requirements of an MNO through his time heading up Synchronica.

So how does it work? Well, in essence Movirtu is harnessing an existing standard for VoIP – WebRTC.

Which is how the Cloudphone service can be accessed via a web browser given that both Chrome and Firefox already come with built-in support for WebRTC.
