Rating: Operators will ignore the existence of mWomen at their cost
You’ve heard of m-commerce, well now we have the emergence of mWomen (mobile women) as a serious force in the mobile eco-system. Hence, Pyramid Research has decided to produce a report that looks at the impact that the availability of mobile phones to women can have on today’s societies. As the significance of mobile phone technology to women is gradually documented and verified, Pyramid predicts that those mobile network operators who are early to participate in the process of making breakthroughs for mWomen will reap the benefits sooner than their late-arriving competitors. The report is entitled ‘mWomen: A Win-Win Opportunity for Mobile Operators’ see here.[This story isĀ GoMo News' attempt at a Female Friday feature! Loyal readers will remember that!]
The study examines the inhibiting factors, as well as the conditions that drive interest in mobile phone adoption by women across the globe.
What these guys obviously can’t say for fear of retribution is that the hard fact of life is that in many developing countries, it is the women who control mobile handsets and ensure that benefits from such behaviour are share equally.
Ronda Zelezny-Green, an associate research analyst with Pyramid Research commented, “Although there has been a notable uptick in mobile phone subscriptions around the world, statistics increasingly point to the fact that there are still a number of women without access to mobile phone technology.”
The report focuses on the fact on the potential gains that MNOs and governments will derive from a female citizenry with better and increased mobile phone access.
By supporting access to mobile phones, operators can help women leverage the information and tools that they need to assist them in the realizsation of their own personal and professional development goals.
“At the same time, MNOs can establish a broader customer base that could result in more mobile phone subscriptions for female end users and eventually generate more revenue for the industry,” Zelezny-Green explains.
Pyramid Research concludes with case studies of mWomen in action from the regions of Latin America, Africa and the Middle East and Asia/Pacific.
This report is priced at $595 and you can download an excerpt from here.
