QR codes, Coupons Big in Japan – but don’t forget France
Rating: the future
I would like to point readers to a great article in my favourite daily read The Guardian.
Why?
1. There is a brilliant picture of people using mobile on the train
2. There is a great quote from our friends at Wireless Watch Japan
3. It’s interesting.
But…
1. I want to remind all readers that mobile coupons, barcodes are live being used and seeing impressive uptake in Europe as well. France is by far the leader and the last time I checked about 14,000 codes were being pushed per month in different forms of advertising for consumers. This means that already mobile users in France are familiar, keen eager and are already using mobile phones to take pictures of mobile bar codes to get data, special offers, promotions or information.
2. Also. In the UK at Arsenal games O2 has been offering free pint promotions by using barcodes and SMS. Users send an SMS to a shortcode to get a free pint. Easy.
3. I do think Japan is the leader. But recently in France, the UK and Spain some pretty big announcements have been made that indicate that the mobile barcode growth spurt – has begun.
4. Yes. It is still early days. But with cross collaboration and network collaboration in France there is promise for impressive uptake across Europe. What I would also like to point out is that the France Orange Gallery innovation is also a milestone in Europe (as is the PlazZza in Belgium) that represent hidden gems in the mobile world that effectively reflect how cross network collaboration, data and barcodes can succeed with search and advertising.
