Rating: Possible phishing scam
GoMobile News has had some seriously negative feedback about an Australian based SMS/text service which we first wrote about back in 2007 (here)! Now, yet another reader has contacted us to say that he (we assume Bob is male) has just has an unfortunate experience with the service. Given the bad Press this site keeps getting, it would certainly seem a good idea to steer well clear of this particular service.
Bob says, “I got an email from smsfun today that said, “Password Change. Hello ***, We believe your account may have been breached recently, and as a precautionary measure your SMSFun password has been changed.”
“Your new password is: ******”
The message continued, “You can log in at http://www.smsfun.com.au and change your password to something easier to remember.”
“Thanks for making SMSFun great!”
Bob then explains, “Following this email two of my email accounts have been sent phishing emails supposedly from friends on my telephone list on the site.”
“These emails were suspicious and had a link (which I did not click).
Chances are they are viruses/malware.”
Bob argues, that he free sms service iss no good any more because the providers put an advertising message at the end of every MS sent.
He concludes, “Now that their security has been breached I have closed my account.”
It doesn’t look good, does it?
