Realeyes3D: hype or reality?

Rating: this is just the beginning

I always worry about companies that win awards too quickly. I often ponder:
1. Do they know too many people?
2. Did they sleep their way to the top?
3. Are they out to get sold?
4. Is there really a long term strategy or just a hot bubble?

Realeyes3d
All of these were my initial reaction to French company Realeyes3D. However, I am happy to say that I am wrong on this occasion. The group is made up of some genuine people and the service is unique.
At the Orange Partner Camp I met Philippe Dewost, VP of Marketing and Business Development Realeyes3D and Conrad Hametner responsible for consumer proposition qipit.

Both guys were genuine and down to the earth. The service is cool. Basically it enables users to take pictures of documents which are then stored, tailored and sent in a unique readable manner back to the user. This means that baby pictures, office notes or student work can be captured and stored online.
Tagging is used to store the information and honestly I liked it.

Qipit
But, and it is a big but; I also felt that Realeyes3D was not extending its reach in the business application area. The solution is quite frankly an enterprise solution and I could see a company such as IKEA using it to keep consumers up to date with kitchen designs etc.

Although, that is the only “but” I could find. The awards that the company has received are well deserved and a huge Japanese mobile operator has just signed up for the service and it wouldn’t surprise me if Orange was next. In fact; this kind of service is a necessity for all mobile operators and it’s based on technology everyone understands and that will change the way we capture and store personal or professional data

Great post ; I would just like to add that

1/ the qipit service is free to test and to use in its current version. Anybody with a 1.3+ Mpix cameraphone shoud give it a try, with even better results when used with a 2Mpix autofocus handset. DSCs work too…

2/ We just added tagging to qipit, which enables web 2.0 style sorting and retrieval of qipit copies stored in your qipit account. With 100 pages offered with the free version, this is really convenient so please give it a try and let us know.

Thank you Bena !
