Response from Jeremy Copp CEO Rapid Mobile on GoMo News ThinkPhone article

by: Bena Roberts Friday, October 3rd, 2008

I would like to thank the CEO of Rapid Mobile Jeremy Copp for the response below.
Bena. You had a query in your commentary that I’m happy to address:

“But at the same time I am not sure what the “focus on mobile devices is”.

Does this mean that ThinkPhone only works on high end
devices or needs to be tweaked for all devices. Is this an in-house
transcoding or content adaptation method? Apart from that (will ask
the company) this sounds like a step forward.

The response:

Underpinning all of our software platforms (ThinkPhone Deliver, ThinkPhone
Direct and Ad360
) is a device knowledge database that automatically grows as
new handsets connect to any of our customers’ services (no manual
intervention is required). The details in this device database enable the
platforms to optimise applications, mobile Internet content and advertising
for *any* device, including low end, mass market handsets as well as all
others. This means that only one version of the application (or site
content, or advert) needs to be created, with the platforms automatically
optimising it at point of delivery for the user’s device.

Hence our customers do not need to continually invest in porting and testing effort,
the user’s experience is always the best possible and the service providers
are not artificially segmenting their available market of users by handset
type. It also future-proofs the service, meaning that providers do not have
to continually monitor and adapt for new handsets as they are launched.
Both ThinkPhone Deliver and ThinkPhone Direct are delivery platforms rather
than canned templates:

they enable our customers to develop whatever
applications or mobile internet sites they want to, safe in the knowledge
that they can be automatically delivered to all devices.

In the application
delivery space ThinkPhone Deliver has been used for everything from secure
transactional betting applications like Betfair Mobile through to
graphically rich animated casino games for Gamesys to classified
advertisement services.

ThinkPhone Direct enables content-rich sites like
Metro Mobile to be delivered as well as landing and registration sites for a
wide variety of mobile services.

If you like, our platforms are the middleware ‘plumbing’ that make it easy
for our customers to deliver services, content, applications and advertising
without having to be concerned with the complexities of device and network
operator diversity within the mobile space.

Let me know if I can provide any further information for you - I’d welcome
an opportunity to get together (perhaps over a beer!) and chew the fat over
the mobile industry.

What we think?
OK - so I like the idea of secure transaction and the incorporation of a betting and
advertising environment. Also the not having to continually invest does make sense.
Thank-you Jeremy… looking forward to that drink!
