ROK provides SMS Q&A Service for talkSPORT
Rating: Terry knows the Answer – bully for him
By Annie Turner
ROK Entertainment Group has obviously just been cleared by the UK radio network talkSPORT to admit it’s behind the Ask Terry Q&A text service launched today. You can text questions such as, "Who scored the winning goal in the 1972 FA Cup final?" and expect an answer within ten minutes for a quid.
ROK reports that the UK SMS Q&A market is growing rapidly with an estimated 1-2 million questions being asked every month and makes the heart sink by adding that humour is added to most answers. It must be a bloke thing, although apparently anyone can ask questions about anything.
What do we think?
Well, GBP1 an answer is expensive – Askmenow in the US costs USD 0.25 a pop. Secondly, there’s this thing called mobile search which is evolving slowly, but it is coming, and it is likely to have a serious impact on Q&A services, especially as flat rate data plans become more common. Also, there are established services in the market already, such as the appalling named Texperts (formerly 82ask). Is that humorous enough?

Thanks for the plug, Annie. But it’s not just “a boy thing”. Feel free to try it for yourself - something about kittens or fluffy bunnies or pastel colours or something. Text ‘Terry’ and your question to 81089.
