RUMOUR: Motricity to buy InfoSpace Mobile Unit?
Rating: I hate blogging on rumours, but:
BKI Media has been saying for months that InfoSpace’s mobile unit is up for sale. We thought FAST would be interested in buying the mobile only unit earlier in the year after FAST and InfoSpace announced their partnership. But FAST had other plans with Rakuten. The latest rumour is that Motricity is set to buy InfoSpace?
Is this true? I don’t know. BUT, l am meeting InfoSpace Mobile division next week and I have been told that it’s a “big announcement”. I thought it was the announcement of a second European win – but it isn’t… (I asked). So the CEO is in London and more as I hear it… (unless an NDA is put on my head). j

INSP is likely only selling the mobile infrastructure side of their mobile business - and keep the mobile search side where the growth opportunity is quite large…smart move imo since the portal business is low growth and is a margin killer
