Scribblings from the S60 Summit in Barcelona
Rating: The agenda includes LBS and widgets
I’ve managed to squeeze an invitation from Nokia to attend its S60 Summit here in Barcelona. The main purpose is to showcase the innovation taking place amongst S60 developers.
Looking at the agenda for the next two days, several of the presentations look set to be highly provoking. Such as ‘Building location aware services’; ‘mobile widgets; demand, data and dollars’ plus ‘rich web experiences in mobile.’
To give us journos a taster of the kind of apps that will be on show, Nokia has set up a special site where you can browse through the apps; see what they can fo; then download them to try out.
One of those apps is Muzeeker which is designed to help Series 60 handset owners find the music they are searching for. It appears to originate from the Mobile Informatics Lab in Denmark.
I tried keying in ‘wearing my rolex’ and it came back with information about James Bond. Think it needs a bit of refining, perhaps. The answer should have been Wiley.
The funniest thing was the level of security Nokia put on the showcase site. Not only did I need passwords and the right MSIDN telephone number, but when I tried to download the app for a second time it wouldn’t let me.
Anyway, I have a really good feeling that loads of juicy tidbits are going to come out of this event. Stay tuned.
