searchme: m.searchme.com mobile visual search engine - give me strength

Posted by Bena Roberts on Oct 6, 2008 14:29

So I got this release:
Searchme, Inc. announced today the immediate availability of its visual search engine for mobile devices. Searchme’s engine delivers results as a browsable list of “pages” — pictures of actual web pages that users can check out before visiting them. Searchme also suggests categories to users, providing shortcuts to the best results. All mobile users can now access the engine at http://m.searchme.com.

So without fail- I tested it out on my mobile.

I liked the clean box and the GoMo style colouring of the box and so I did two searches:

1. Bena Roberts

2. GoMo News

What did I get?
Well - Bena Roberts pulled up every blog that I have stopped writing for. There was no picture of me or results page - it was just a screen shot of the home page for msearchblog.com

GoMo News search found this site first but then there were links to Technorati. Now, call me a failed blogger or what ever else - but I hate Technorati. I was ill advised earlier this year that Technorati and link building were vital for presence and social media. That might have been the case 2 years ago -but now having learnt about SEO and social SEO  - there are a lot of factors not only links that optimise search or identity. On top of that - I realise that its actually better when niche content isn’t linked to (I could write a book on this so will stop there).

So, I wasn’t impressed about getting links or images of GoMo on Technorati (also because some porn sites are linked to me and I can’t shake them).
But anyway - this isn’t visual mobile search. This is simple search with screen shots.

Lets all inhale deeply.
