Avanquest Software has released SendPhotos, a new free service that combines the on-line and mobile web for photo-sharing. Accessible via PC or mobile device, the service allows users to share photographs through mobile or on-line upload and email to one account.
As with the Photobucket Uploader, pictures taken on a mobile device can be automatically uploaded to the SendPhotos on-line service with one or two clicks. But more like Picassa, SendPhotos is geared towards letting friends and family access and share full size images. The actual albums are stored on-line at www.sendphotos.com. Pics are uploaded and managed at the site, and can then be accessed by selected friends and family through a mobile or computer.
Signing up for SendPhotos includes a free mobile phone client, a free PC client, and 1GB of online storage space throughout the duration of the beta phase. SendPhoto supports more than 140 mobile phones including Android, iPhone and Blackberry.
What we think?
This service really doesn’t offer much different than the Photobucket one. Automatic uploads; on-line storage, management and editing; completely free installation. There is one big difference though, even though it’s small at the moment. The iPhone app allows for on-device editing of photos before uploading, up to and including effects like smudging. As smartphones become more and more powerful as multimedia editors, services that take advantage of those capabilities (like Movidia’s video MoSo) will see a huge boost in usage.
