Shopping services provider ShopLocal is launching ShopLocal Mobile, a GPS-based mobile application that connects retailers and consumers to the ShopLocal.com site, based on their current locations.

ShopLocal Mobile was developed with uLocate Communications is launched on that company’s GPS Where widget platform for mobile.

Vikram Sharma, CEO of ShopLocal, comments, “ShopLocal Mobile helps shoppers find promotions and deals on products in their local markets from wherever they are, and whenever they want, by simply using their GPS-enabled cell phones.”

The mobile shopping application extends ShopLocal.com circular promotions and ads to users’ GPS-enabled phones, allowing them access to current promotions available in their local communities whether they are shopping online or in a shop.

This is becoming a trend: earlier this year Sprint Nextel set up a service with GPShopper to find products at nearby shops.

Would I find this useful? Oh yes. Would I use it? Oh yes. Due to some genetic deficiency, I’m a woman who detests shopping and keeps it to an absolute minimum. Anything in the way of short cut would be most welcome.

The only trouble is I live here in the UK and as far as I know, such services aren’t yet available, so I’ll have to carry on with eBay and Amazon and Oxfam.
