General Wireless claims to be the first to ship SMS and MMS plugs ins to Microsoft Vista and Microsoft Outlook 2007.

The plugs ins are called eSMS and eMMS and enable anyone with an Internet connection to send text, pictures, sound and video from PCs to mobile phones – plus the right software, obviously. The plug-ins are integrated with programs including Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express and Microsoft Internet Explorer.

The new eSMS/eMMS plug-in are compatible with Outlook 2000, Outlook XP and Outlook 2007. They have been adapted to work with the new security policies in Microsoft Vista and MicrosoftOutlook2007. Customer shipments to operators will start in the last week of June.

Good stuff. Just one of the steps needed to boost interactivity and enable web-based communities to spill over on to mobile.
