SMS text Crime busters – mBlox and Anderson Software
Crimestoppers UK will roll out a pilot in three East London schools, specifically focusing on combating knife crime. For the first time, mobile phone users in the UK now have the ability to provide anonymous crime fighting information through the power of SMS text messaging.
mBlox and Anderson Software, LLC, applications specialists have joined forces to enable citizens to send anonymous information on crime incidents by sending a text message to a dedicated Crimestoppers number.
What we think?
Knife crime has to stop and youth culture in Britain is unfortunately tarnished with a perverse use of knives and phones (video stabbings or bullying). With this service the phone is a mechanism of reporting anonymously which is a very wise move.
It is definitely a good start but in the medium term all forms of interaction (voice, video, live streaming) should be accepted anonymously for this to really take off.
