Rating: SMS sexy message service? (Not funny)

Smsfun.com.au is an Australian based SMS mobile community. It launched in early 2006 and in 18 months has seen huge growth and expansion to New Zealand and now the UK.

Smsfun.co.uk was acquired this month.

I spoke to the boss of Smsfun.com.au Mark Ross-Smith and he said,
“We couldn’t halt the incredible rate at which new members were signing up and the sms costs were skyrocketting so we implemented a $2 joining fee and they kept coming! So now we offer much more value to the members since they pay a fee to become part of the community and the members have been embracing the whole concept with open arms.”

Smsfun.com.au has close to 100,000 members in Australia and sends out over 25,000 sms/day.

I am going to Australia in November and hope to meet up with Mark then and perhaps do a podcast and interview too.

Are you kidding???? Do you know how these guys operate?

If this isn’t a scam it’s the closest possible thing to being a scam and I am going to pursue their questionable practices as agressively as I can!

Its a huge scam I joined up, and didnt even select to pay them a $2 fee. And next thing I know all these fees are showing up on my ph bill, it took ages to get it sorted, apparently the aussie telco laws allow these ppl to help themselves to anyones phone account/credit and the onus is on the poor consumer to get them to stop.

After I cancelled it i kept getting spam mail feom them, and the only way they allow you to unsubscribe is to log into their system to do it (prob so they can take more money and claim you are an active user!). There used to be an unsubscribe link but no matter how many times I used it they still mailed me.

Just logged in today to try and cancel again, and it still had me as acive for their premium service.

i cancelled and screenshot’d the whole process and even took a screenshot of the message on my work pc that says i cant alter the system tiem (along with the time and date on the windows desktop) to prove when i cancelled - will send them to phone company and the aussie anti spam commission if i get any more bills or spam from them.

DO NOT TOUCH SMSFUN WITH A TEN FOOT POLE YOU WILL GET STUNG AND GETTING YOURSELF OFF THEIR SYSTEM IS VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE!
