by: admin Monday, July 14th, 2008

SnapNow is today launching its mobile image recognition technology in the UK and we thought you would like an exclusive opportunity to try it. SnapNow essentially allows consumers to take a picture on a cameraphone, send it to SnapNow via MMS or mobile email, and immediately be linked to a pre-determined mobile webpage.

TRY IT NOW!!!!

Take a picture with your cameraphone of the image below and send it via MMS to 88900 or via email to pic@snapnow.co.uk. - Remember though the costs of an MMS vary and this is a UK MMS number - I will see if I can get a US one.

From the Press Release:

SnapNow has been working in Japan for the last three years with a number of brands to develop engaging and interactive consumer marketing campaigns that use their mobile image recognition technology. The company will announce their arrival in the UK as two consumer magazines (one football and the other youth/fashion focused) and Interpublic’s IPM (an out of home ad-planner) sign up to trial the technology.

SnapNow’s technology was invented by a hobbiest group of NASA scientists and allows marketers to bring a level of interactivity to outdoor, print, TV and cinema campaigns.  Using any cameraphone a consumer can take a photo of a SnapNow-enabled advert or content, send it via MMS text message or email address and in return receive mobile web links that bring further value to the consumer. Marketeers might send links for consumers to download mobile wallpapers or ringtones.  Others may supply consumers with more news, pictures, videoclips, information, money off promotional codes or competition prizes.

We say: It is great to see technology like this being brought to the world of advertising. The UK has been short of interactive marketing technology compared to Japan. Not only that, but it works as you can see for yourselves. The first time I used SnapNow I tested an image I was sent from the PR company, opened it up on my mac, just in Preview (OSX Application), took a shot of it on the screen with the Nokia E71, sent it via MMS and hey presto an SMS came back with a link. Unfortunately the link took me to a web page for Lynx, which informed me that I had an out of date device - er no Lynx - your web page has some coded content on there that doesn’t work with the Nokia E71. But, that’s hardly SnapNow’s fault - their part works - and works well as you can see with our exclusive demo.

Many thanks to Will @ Edelman for setting up this demo.
