Rating: First trivia mobile game on the social network, apparently

Why not leverage the growing power of the social networks to promote your mobile games and brand? That’s exactly what Sonic Boom, a with the launch of what it claims is the first mobile trivia game on Facebook.

Sonic’s Name That Movie game offers thousands of trivia questions about movies, actors, and directors which players can answer solo or in live multiplayer challenges with opponents.

It seems the game is available now but doesn’t go live as a Facebook app until November 3rd 2008 - at which time it will be cross-promoted with two US networks - Alltel and Verizon Wireless.

Of course, Sonic Boom already offers a trivia mobile game in the shape of Name that Tune and it’s also no stranger to Facebook where it reckons its Tattoo Shop application was voted as the Number 1 recently-added Facebook widget, according to Adonomics.

Sonic Boom’s CEO, David Danon is gushing about the advantges of using Facebook. “The value of mobile social media is growing, and we continue to drive viral interest in our applications through services such as Facebook,” he said.

“Facebook is an ideal vehicle for Name That Movie - it is another conduit for us to up-sell users on carrier decks and it maximises the value of the licensing brand.”

Expect more mobile content providers to follow in Sonic’s shoes and capitalise on the trendiness of Web 2.0 services to promote their wares.
