STOP! Hammertime application for iPhone from InfoMedia and MC Hammer

MC Hammer has announced the release of a “HammerTime” application for the iPhone. Developed by InfoMedia, the application will allow fans of the artist to follow his blog, track his concerts, watch his music videos and follow his Twitter posts.

From the release:

“I’m a big fan of creating premium content for the Internet” says MC Hammer. “This iPhone application is the next logical progression in my Socialmedia ecosystem and connecting with my fans who like to follow my blog, calendar, music, videos and Twitter feed. I’m an entrepreneur at heart, and I know winning technology when I see it. The system offered by InfoMedia made it super easy to get my app done quickly.”

What we think?

Quite apart from the novelty value of this app (honestly, who wouldn’t want MC Hammer to be only one click away?), it also strikes me that we’ll probably see a LOT more of this. Twitter has gained a reputation for being quite celebrity heavy. I use it to follow quite a lot of my favourite authors and musicians, and the number of famous Twitterers grows daily. Hammer has over 30,000 followers on the service. While he’s not the first celebrity to release an iPhone app, as far as I know he’s the first celebrity to consolidate all his social media in a single branded app. This could be the start of a big trend on iPhone, and a big new source of income for developers.
