Summer Hot –M-Spatial Mobile Search Index

by: admin Friday, October 27th, 2006

HOT or NOT? Warm!

Results from m-spatial’s Mobile Search Index show that between July and September 2006 mobile search queries were tailored towards British places of interests and holidays. Search requests such as tourist information, camping and bed & breakfast climbed by 137%, 160% and 108% respectively.

This indicates that the mobile phone is increasingly been used as a place to search for local interests. In January this year m:metrics produced figures on mobile search indicating that the weather was the most requested consumer service on the world wide web.

Local search is coming of age – the trick now is to interconnect mobile local search with the web, communities, recommendation and social networking. Static results on requests such as Tesco or Bed & Breakfast might return suggestions but growing the value chain subsequent to this is where the “real” value lies for consumers, vendors and operators.
