The Swedish directory assistance company Ahhaaa/ 118100 has chosen PhoneSpots to deliver advertisements to customers that have called or sent SMS for directory assistance. All queries will be answered to the customers needs and then accompanied by a coupon or a map ad.

Apparently PhoneSpots offers a sophisticated “context engine” which can analyse listings and queries to deliver the most relevant advertisement along with the results.

From the press release
“Local search is the ‘killer app’ for mobile phones, and we have been offering local search for mobile consumers through our 118100 services for years,” said Mikael Benckert, CEO, Ahhaaa/118100. “Our challenge was to monetize our service through ad sponsorship while preserving the high-quality experience our customers expect. The PhoneSpots Mobile Ad Exchange’s context engine enables us to deliver highly targeted mobile ad campaigns that our customers view as value-added content.” More information on Ahhaaa/118100 is available at www.118100.com and www.118100.se.

“Mobile local search creates highly compelling advertising opportunities,” said Tom Arthur, CEO of PhoneSpots. “When mobile consumers call directory assistance, they are in immediate need of a local business’ product or service. The ability to precisely target ad campaigns to a caller’s particular situation maximizes advertisers’ ROI while maintaining or increasing consumer satisfaction.”

What we think
To be honest mobile advertising is getting boring and it hasn’t even started. Contextual, relevant, personalized… you name it, it’s in every press release.
At the end of the day Advertising is about making money and I don’t believe that if a relevant advertiser is not found then the ad will not be pushed. Of course it will because that is what advertising is about.
