Latest version of BlackBerry App World – 4.0 was missing
Rating: We’ve doublechecked and it’s there now
We were excited to learn that RIM had introduced a new version of its BlackBerry App World – namely 4.0. However, GoMobile News has a nasty habit of checking things out and to our astonishment here in the UK (at least), we weren’t actually able to download version 4.0 to our BlackBerry Bold immediately. We followed the link provided – http://uk.blackberry.com/services/appworld/ and had no joy. Then we tried this URL. Initially, all that happened was that we downloaded a slightly newer version of version 3. Then suddenly, the Bold calmly announced that version 4.0 was indeed available. Strange. So here’s some of the new features in version 4.0. Continue reading
Opera Mini browser finally makes it onto BlackBerry App World
Rating: Will it work if BlackBerry crashes again we wonder?
Although it has actually been compatible with the BlackBerry OS for some years, the Opera Mini browser has finally made it onto the BlackBerry App World app store. Savvy BlackBerry users have been saving money on their data plans by downloading it manually from http:/m.opera.com. Having it made easily accessible on the official BlackBerry App World should ensure much wider usage if nothing else than the fact that consumers trust the official download sites for their brand of mobile OS. You have to wonder why it has taken so long to happen? Perhaps RIM is waking up to harsh commercial realities? Continue reading

Well, RIM may just be tackling Siri head on with the introduction of the Vlingo app as one of its set of complimentary apps. This ‘virtual assistant’ app isn’t new. However, it’s been described as worth $19.99 but now represents the fifth of RIM’s free Thank You Gift set of apps. That’s if you can actually find it. GoMo News had trouble locating this app but got there eventually. Continue reading
RIM eager to entice developers for consumer Blackberry apps
Rating: News about help with advertising is buried away
You can tell exactly how keen RIM is to get the (unreleased) Blackberry v. 6 OS message across to the developer community when the v. 6 video was playing in the men’s room here at the European Blackberry Developers Day. RIM is battling to attract developers to its platform but is struggling to understand consumer apps. Continue reading
GoMo Buzzwatch: Blackberry launches App World mobile application store
RIM launched it’s very own application store yesterday, giving Blackberry users quick, on-portal access to third-party apps. Downloadable from mobile.blackberry.com or blackberry.com/appworld, the release has drawn inevitable comparisons to the iPhone App Store. With Blackberry joining the ever-growing ranks of those who have launched their own app store, the question is have they done a [...]
