Fiksu offers webinar on how to market apps over Xmas

Here’s an interesting one for those mobile app developers who are thinking about cashing in on probably the most lucrative time of year for app purchasing – the run up to the Xmas [Holiday] season. Fake Japanese app steals 10m pieces of personal info
A group of Japanese app developers could face up to three years imprisonment after being arrested over a smartphone virus scam.
Initial reports said that about 90,000 smartphones were infected by the virus which extracted personal information stored on users’ handsets.
The apps, marketed to unsuspecting customers as a download called “The Movie”, ostensibly offered a free video facility for Android smartphones and were advertised via popular games titles. Continue reading
The smartphone isn’t killing the High Street store says Udozi
Rating: Better apps and mobile only discounts can even help
According to research carried out this month [October 2012] by YouGov for Udozi – the iPhone shopping app supplier, one in six (16 per cent) of UK shoppers have already searched for an item on a mobile device and then bought it in-store. The findings help bolster the fact that smartphones aren’t killing the High Street, they are helping to bolster it. For example, 11 per cent of those polled have used their mobile device to find discounts and offers before going into stores to collect them. Plus 41 per cent of shoppers would rather shop in a department store, or on their local high street, rather than online. Exclusive mobile deals are also significant when it comes to the mobile shopping experience according to 22 per cent of consumers and 30 per cent of smartphone users. Continue reading

The efficacy of jumping onto the social media bandwagon can be measured as Precise‘s Brand Insights team is doing by listening to the voice of consumers as expressed on social media. The objective is to help businesses/brands make better, more informed decisions. Precise’s recent research has been around how brands can tap into the power of sport sponsorship. It has discovered that network operator, Orange experienced the third highest number of mentions in relation to UEFA Euro 2012 during the group stage. Use of its UEFA Euro 2012 app generated many of these mentions, indicating the app was popular. However, the app did not drive as much in the way of user-generated opinions, Precise says.
