Three new mobile apps hit Vodafone 360 from WIN plc

win-plc Vodafone 360 is the service that the operator uses to try and tie all of your communications into the network. It’s a “converged” comms hub - whether on your mobile or your computer, the plan is that you can access your phone phone, email, chat and social networks all in one Vodafone-branded place. But it’s also an application centre, and today WIN plc has announced the launch of three new apps over 360.

Four Chinese handset manufacturers suddenly get excited about JIL (Joint Innovation Lab) compatibility. Could this have something to do with the earlier announcement that the Wholesale Applications Community is going to be heavily biased towards JIL and OMTP BONDI? Probably.

The group, which contains some of the largest mobile operators in the world, claimed it would launch an open platform to deliver applications to all mobile phone owners. sprint Sprints financial results from the third quarter of this year show that the company is starting to turn it’s bad fortunes around. Losses are slowing, and mobile is picking up. The big question was “what will Sprint do next?” And with talk of application stores, WiMAX and more Android devices, Sprint is trying to answer some of those questions.

party-labI’ve long been a fan of the Joint Innovation Lab and what it stands for (see below), so I was delighted to see the news today. Four major mobile handset makers have signed on to the organisation, providing a solid base to what was previously a group comprised only of operators. Perhaps most importantly, one of those manufacturers is RIM - meaning that the JIL has also gotten the support of a mobile operating system with a decent and popular app store.

verizonVerizon has interesting news releases for it’s digital TV service, FiOS TV, today. The operator has launched services that provide mobile application and social networking service on your television. It is even launching an Open Development Platform that will allow third party developers to provide widgets on the FiOS service, just like a mobile app store.
