The Tech Trailblazers Awards have been officially launched to champion innovative tech start-ups worldwide. BCS searches for the Innovative Mobile App of The Year
Rating: Ernest institution wakes up to power of the mobile app
The BCS ( formerly the British Computer Society), which is the Chartered Institute for IT, has begun its search for the most Innovative Mobile App of 2012 as it launches this year’s UK IT Industry Awards, in conjunction with Incisive’s Computing magazine. You’d better huryy, however, because the closing date for entries is 5pm on Friday July 6th [2012]. Judges are looking for mobile apps that run on mobile phones or other devices with built-in 3G or 4G capability. These apps should show an innovative use of the technology in the phones, and possibly of on-line services. They should be publically available – they can be either free or paid-for. Continue reading

Vodafone announces accessibility app winners

Relatively few mobile application developers focus on the potential that smartphone apps have to help people with disabilities play a more active and independent role in society. Yet, over one billion people live with some form of disability. Hence, Vodafone partnered with AGE Platform Europe and the European Disability Forum (EDF) to develop the Smart Accessibility awards. The winners of the inaugural awards have just been announced. The winning smartphone apps whose developers will share the €200,000 prize fund are: – BIG launcher; Help Talk; Wheelmap; and Zoom Plus Magnifier. They are all Android apps and three of them are in the Android Market but GoMo News couldn’t find Help Talk. Continue reading
Rum winner in MMA Smarties awards

We’re not quite sure whether the MMA (Mobile Marketing Association) is aware of this but it appears to have picked the name of a popular brand of children’s’ sweeties [candy] in the UK for its new set of awards. Anyway, the ‘Smarties’ were announced last night [November 17th 2011] at the Hotel SLS at Beverly Hills in Los Angeles, USA. The event was sponsored this year [2011] by Motricity along with Millennial Media. The MMA Global Award Winners were chosen from hundreds of entrants by a judging panel of international marketers and agency leaders. Somehow the global winner and North American regional winner appear to be the same thing. A bit like the hosting nation winning the Olympics. Anyway, the overall winner was Old Navy and Crispin Porter + Bogusky for ‘Old Navy Records’. Congratulations. Continue reading
MMA stresses global entries for forthcoming awards

Significantly, the Mobile Marketing Association (MMA) is emphasizing its global reach with the announcement of the marketer and agency finalists for its 2011 Mobile Marketing awards for innovation, creativity and Leadership. There are entries in the running from South Africa, France and Hong Kong. The association claims that the finalists represent the best-of-the- best in mobile marketing from across the globe. Oscars provide the perfect platform for promotion mobile shortcodes
There was a “blink and you’ll miss it” mobile promotion during the Oscars – but a blink during one of the most watched TV events of the year is worth an awful lot. The acceptance speech for winning documentary “The Cove” saw one of the film makers raising a “call to action” banner with a mobile shortcode on it.
