Augmented reality hits British stamps courtesy of Metaio
Ratings works with iOS4 and some Android handsets
There’s some kind of irony in picking steam trains as the theme for the world’s first ‘intelligent stamp’ but the UK’s Royal Mail has done just that. Actually, they should properly be described as the world’s first AR (Augmented Reality) stamps since they employ technology developed by Metaio. Consequently the stamps can only be read by iPhones running iOS4 and Android handsets running 1.6 or above via Metaio’s Junaio browser.
The first reports of these stamps had GoMo News somewhat confused and desperately trying to see a barcode hidden in stamps’ design. Instead it uses image recognition built into Metaio’s Junaio browser. Continue reading →
