JAGTAG claims 87% of all US phone owners can use mobile barcodes right now
2d barcodes are one of those technologies that seem perfectly suited to working on mobile phones. The technology can offer a lot to the modern consumer - by the simple step of taking a picture of a barcode, it allows you to gain access to a vast amount of information, special offers and more. Outside of Japan, take up of barcodes has been fairly reserved. However, Seattle-based company JAGTAG claims that right now, almost 90% of all phone owners in the States can use mobile barcodes.
Mobile barcodes on TV and on Sony Ericsson with Scanbuy
2d barcoding expert Scanbuy, as busy as ever, has released two pieces of news today. First, it is powering a new mobile barcode service from Latin American mobile operator Claro Chile. Second, the Scanlife barcode reader will be coming pre-loaded on Sony Ericsson camera phones.
The Casio, Hitachi and NEC mobile merger simplified

New “dense” mobile barcode stores multimedia content, no need for net access
Scientists at Edith Cowan University in Western Australia claim they have developed new “dense” barcodes that can store enough information to hold images, video or ringtones. This multimedia can be downloaded directly to a camera phone without the need for internet access.
The have named the new kind of barcode the Mobile Multi-Colour Composite (MMCC) 2D-Barcode.
