JAGTAG claims 87% of all US phone owners can use mobile barcodes right now

jagtag-mobile-barcode 2d barcodes are one of those technologies that seem perfectly suited to working on mobile phones. The technology can offer a lot to the modern consumer - by the simple step of taking a picture of a barcode, it allows you to gain access to a vast amount of information, special offers and more. Outside of Japan, take up of barcodes has been fairly reserved. However, Seattle-based company JAGTAG claims that right now, almost 90% of all phone owners in the States can use mobile barcodes.

picture-4 2d barcoding expert Scanbuy, as busy as ever, has released two pieces of news today. First, it is powering a new mobile barcode service from Latin American mobile operator Claro Chile. Second, the Scanlife barcode reader will be coming pre-loaded on Sony Ericsson camera phones.

The idea is this - you take a shot of a JAGTAG mobile barcode that appears in Sports Illustrated, and you send it to a shortcode. In return, you get pics of Sports Illustrated swimwear models sent back to you. Simple!

Amazon acquires mobile search engine SnapTell - a match made in heaven?

Amazon’s search division, A9, has acquired mobile search service SnapTell. SnapTell is an image-recognition app that can identify the cover a piece of media (like a book, DVD or computer game) through a cameraphone and return pricing info and reviews from the web.

Ontela and Photobucket today announced that they have launched the Photobucket Mobile Uploader. The new service automatically uploads users camera phone pics to their Photobucket albums.
