Spendino, das nach eigenen Angaben das erste Unternehmen in Deutschland ist, welches das Handy ausschließlich für soziale Zwecke einsetzt, verwandelt das Smartphone in „eine moderne mobile Sammeldose“, indem die Spenden via SMS gesendet werden.

He spoke about how charities tend to view mobile as a once off “strategy” for donation, rather than as a channel through which long-term donors can be acquired (see the full interview here). But the success of mobile as a channel for sending to the victims of the Haitian earthquake could be the turning point that changes peoples minds. Mobile really can be used to help people all over the world, every single day.

If you ever doubted that donating money via SMS/text on a large scale was logistically impossible, then Mobile Interactive Technology (MIT) believes it has disproved this. In less than one month, MIT’s MIDAS platform handled 376,568 mobile interactions. That’s around £1.75 million in donations.

picture-24I spoke to mobile veteran Jim Manis, CEO of Mobile Giving at the Mobile Marketing Forum. He’s a long time supporter of the MMA, and an influential figure in its past. But today we talked about his current pet institution: Mobile Giving. This is a non-profit charity organisation that currently helps over 350 charities collect donations via mobile. We also spoke about how the mobile channel can be used for marketing and educating of donors, and the possible commercial applications of the service

I shouted “bravo” when I read this. Using non-profits or charities is an effective, strong, compelling use of mobile marketing. We all know the mobile is personal. No one reads my messages and this is a discreet sensible way of getting the message across. In fact, I am about to sponsor a child and if there was a mobile element to the sponsorship I would pay for it – but I digress.
