UK MVNO’s SIM cards arrive in the St Nick of time
Rating: The Peoples’ Operator sends SIMs out Before Xmas
Having been at the original launch of the UK MVNO, The People’s Operator (TPO), GoMobile News finally received its SIM card in the Post (mail). Which is interesting because it’s almost a month after the actual Press event (November 19th 2012) and we signed up immediately. But, hey, it is just in time for Xmas. One thing which we can confirm, however, is that TPO is definitely hosted on the EE network. That’s good news because you shouldn’t need to unlock a an Orange or T-Mobile handset. Continue reading
the people’s operator starts as UK MVNO
Rating: The mobile network which makes a real difference, man
Wow. Attending the launch of the UK’s latest MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator), the people’s operator (TPO) was like being at some old-school hippie fest. This one reckons that it can really make a difference by giving 25 per cent of its profits to a charitable foundation. TPO couldn’t say which mobile network operator it has decided to go with but claimed it was the UK’s largest mobile network operator. So it has to be EE (formerly Everything Everywhere), then. There was also an amazing quote from Esther Rantzen. Continue reading

Rating: Proceeds from Rob Shoesmith’s Bin There Done That go to homeless
Famed for spending ten days camped outside an Apple Store in London’s Covent Garden, Rob Shoesmith has set himself an ambitious target of selling a million copies of his e-book. The book is available from Amazon and the Apple iTunes iBooks Store. Shoesmith actually works for an smartphone app developer operating under the name of MEDL Mobile. His idea is to sell enough copies of the book – ‘Bin There Done That’ so that he can sell his house in Coventry [England] and donate the proceeds to a charity for the homeless. The book only costs 99 pence or $1.99. Shoesmith emailed GoMobile News to announce that the book had got into the British Top 40 best selling books on iTunes. It has subsequently dropped to No. 60, so he needs more help from Apple fans everywhere. Continue reading
Vodafone extends JustTextGiving to everyone
Rating: Jut put your VIC code on your running shirt
Vodafone has announced that it is extending its JustTextGiving text donation service by offering everyone their own personal Vodafone Identification Code (VIC). Each VIC is free to set up and manage, and every penny goes straight to their chosen charity. Gift Aid can also be reclaimed. JustTextGiving was initially set up in May [2011] to focus on helping charities to raise funds. The revolutionary scheme has now been widened to include anyone raising money for a charity in Britain. Anyone over 18 can apply for a unique, VIC personalised textcode (e.g. TONY56). The best way to do so is to visit www.justtextgiving.co.uk or you can call 0800 0521 081. Vodafone claims it takes less than one minute to set up. It took us five but then we wanted to personalise out giving code. Continue reading
