Rating: Will MWC lose out to CTIA Las Vegas?
Probably Europe’s largest gathering of muggers, pick-pockets and thieves has now finished. That’s because they all descended on Barcelona for the Mobile World Congress which ended last Friday [2nd March 2012]. So they’ve left again. GoMo News normally runs stories about the level of thefts encountered by those wending their way to Catalonia for the world’s largest cellular based event. But it’s not news any more as it happens every year. Despite our advice to the contrary, the show’s organisers have stuck ardently with Barcelona Continue reading
Rating: But the system itself could be open to abuse
A very laudable initiative from the US-based wireless industry body – the CTIA has persuaded key North American mobile network operators to sign up to a new app vetting scheme. Actually it’s not very new because it is merely the mobile version of a ratings scheme operated by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) . That body claims to already be the de facto ratings group for the majority of video games. It now wants to turn its attention to creating ’parent-friendly’ ratings for mobile apps – and games are the obvious worry here. The big snag is that neither Apple or Google has signed up to the scheme. GoMo News reckons that leaves a loophole for unscrupulous marketers. Continue reading

Unfortunately, on the first night of CTIA – I got a stomach bug and the only party I attended was Myriad. But it was a super party and I was greeted at the door with “welcome the fabulous GoMo News”… you know that I love flattery!
Before I go on about the parties I have to shout out to Sprint for the most amazing media lounge with food, drinks, smoothies, vegan stuff (yey) and all sorts. It was a huge treat and I also finally demoed Google Wallet and got a great interview (up next week). I hardly write about Sprint but with such great focus on us at the show and really super staff and interviews – that is going to change….
This is a great start to CTIA a morning show setting the pace and scene for the event. We are delighted to have the CEO and President of Polycom involved and the VP of Public Affairs at CTIA. Please watch below

Mobile Augmented Reality (Mobile AR) is a topic on fire. It brings mobile to the “now” and enables a different type of visualisation or experience.
We here at GoMo News are fans –but have been holding back on our excitement because of ways to monetise Mobile AR.
I am very excited to be moderating a panel on the very subject at Mobile AR Conference during CTIA in San Diego on 11th October.
Please feel free to contact me for a chat on Mobile AR before the panel or we will be doing a special video feature around the panel and event – so there are a couple of sponsorship opportunities also available.
See you there, Bena
