Chipmunk helps write keitai novel on a Nokia E6
Rating: That’s the rapper not the mammal
We’ve never heard of it before, but apparently ketai (see Wikipedia here) is a custom format for novels specially written for reading on a mobile phone. Now – working in conjunction with Nokia – the successful children” story writer author Terry Deary has written one on a Nokia E6. (We’re now sure of that but Nokia thought it was an E7). The novel is called The Perfect Poison Pill Plot and just to give it a boost, Deary has tied up with rap star and Londoner – Chipmunk. He’s released his narrated version in five short video clips which you can see on Nokia’s Facebook pages here. Continue reading
Anna update for Symbian ^3 release into wild
Rating: We’re not sure how millions will benefit, though
So it seems that Nokia is still determined to keep flogging what everyone knows now is a dead horse- namely, the Symbian OS. Ilari Nurmi, a vp with Nokia, has declared that, “Our ongoing commitment to Symbian will see up to ten more phones introduced over the next 12 months, plus further updates to the user experience and support for the software until at least 2016.” To try to demonstrate to the world that it is still a player in the smartphone stakes, Nokia has today [August 18th 2011] made available (as an update) the very latest release of the OS known as Symbian Anna. This is intended to introduce a whole bunch of new features that will make Anna more user-friendly but more business-friendly and developer friendly too. Nurmi talks about Symbian smartphones being used by millions of people around the world every day. But, unless GoMo News has got this terribly wrong, this update only applies to a very specific number of Symbian ^3 handsets. Continue reading
Everything is going Pete Tong with Nokia
Rating:O2 offers the app of a lifetime
Displaying its continuing faith in the Finnish handset maker, O2 has teamed up with Nokia to offer an amasing prize for UK clubbing fans (the musical type). 45 pairs of tickets (equating to 90 lucky people) will enable the holders to see the last night of ‘All Gone Pete Tong’ in Ibiza. To stand the best chance, you need to own one of four latest Nokia handsets. Then all you need to do is download the Symbian app created by b@TV, the online global clubbing gurus. Obviously both Nokia and O2 are anxious to maintain their ‘trendy image’ amongst the younger generation. Or amongst anyone who has ever yearned to go to Ibiza’s Pacha nightclub of course. Nokia to produce Windows Phone handsets
Rating: From our man in the Kremlin
Obviously Nokia has got to do something fast to retain its share of the smartphone market. GoMo News has always advocated that Nokia produce Android based handsets. But now there are rumours coming out of Russia that Nokia is “talking about the creation of new line of Windows Phone devices, which could be sold under Nokia brand, via Nokia distribution channels and have some typical Nokia features.” That’s not as crazy as it sounds because of all the handset OS rivals, Windows Phone presents the least threat. The news comes on the back of confirmation of our story that the E7 would miss Xmas and rumoured lay-offs of 800 Nokia folk. Continue reading
Nokia E7 smartphone will miss Xmas, eXpansys says
Rating: Intriguing remarks about Symbian^4 in E7 report
What a shame! The smartphone which many regard as the obvious hit of Nokia World held in London back in September 2010, the E7, won’t go on sale officially in the UK until January 10th 2011 it seems. That’s what it says on the leading online direct handset sales site – eXpansys. The handset will set you back £584.99 inc taxes. The E7 will run the latest version of the Symbian OS – Symbian ^3 but GoMo News was most intrigued by remarks made by What Mobile magazine about the next version of the Symbian OS – Symbian^4.
