RIM provides kit to bloggers @ WOMAD UK festival

Here’s an interesting piece of branding. The WOMAD (World Of Music And Dance) festival held over the last weekend [27th – 29th July 2012] had as its media partner, the UK national newspapers – the Guardian and the Observer [Sunday only]. Now the editors say they “are committed to an ‘Open’ form of journalism. So they invited readers to join in by contributing to its web site with their music reviews and festival observations. But it just so happens that the Guardian festivals are sponsored by BlackBerry. Notice how RIM at least acknowledges that the public only recognises its brand. Anyway, as a consequence RIM provided the full kit to enable bloggers to write directly from the event. Continue reading
Festivals apps are all the rave
Rating: What you really need is a tent finder
Everywhere you look, there seem to be apps appearing to coincide with all the major music festivals in the UK. A really obvious candidate is an iPhone app for the iTunes festival (which takes place from July 1st 2011 ). Naturally, that app is being heavily promoted on the iTunes App Store. Of course, Glastonbury had its fair share of apps, too. Orange launched the official Glastonbury 2011 app for iPhone and Android users, and even had a version for Nokia handsets (on Ovi) out before the festival started. There’s one big snag to all these festival apps – battery life. Music festivals usually last at least four days and most smartphones struggle to reach 24 hours. That’s probably why Orange decided to test the Sound Charge T-Shirt at Glastonbury. Continue reading
Music festivals and University look the same on mobile
What do music festivals and University have in common (apart from the questionable facial hair, hyper-sexual atmosphere, vast quantities of booze and drugs, and abundance of ironic t-shirts)? Mobile applications, of course! In February this year, we reported that Australian mobile advertiser Motopia had bought its own app developer: 2moro. Now we’re seeing the fruits of that union, as Motopia has signed an exclusive UK distribution agreement with Educate Ltd. for its mobile comms platform Lemon & Lime. Continue reading
