India will prove powerhouse for 4G smartphone growth

Gfk predicts that ASPs will decline as well

According to the latest global smartphone sales data from GfK, almost six in ten (58 per cent) smartphones sold in Q2 2015 were 4G-enabled. With one major operator launching 4G services in India at the start of August [2015], 4G is now available in all key countries. “India is expected to be the largest contributor of absolute smartphone unit growth globally this year [2015], ” said Kevin Walsh, director of trends and forecasting with GfK comments. He added, “The main reason behind this is the currently low smartphone penetration in the market together with a significant intensification of the competition amongst the smartphone vendors, which will drive ASP [Average Sale Price] erosion allowing more affordable devices in the market.” Continue reading

Industry reaction to Virgin Media’s VIP Plus

UK MVNO is the 1st to offer 08 numbers for SIM only

The UK’s premier MVNO [Mobile Virtual Network Operator], Virgin Media, has become the first operator to offer inclusive calls to 08 numbers on a 30 day, SIM Only mobile contract. This is a significant move forward because non-geographic numbers such as 08 are expensive for the many Brits who only possess a mobile rather than fixed line phone. Ernest Doku, the mobile expert with uSwitch.com, observes, “This new VIP Plus deal shows that Virgin Media turning its attention to those costly non-geographic numbers and has managed to make the best even better.” Continue reading

Phones 4U in big UK push for Windows Phone 8

Rating: Nokia reliant on this one retailer for its UK sales

It is interesting to see that UK High Street retailer, Phones 4u, will be running a series of Windows Phone 8 launch events in conjunction with Microsoft, Nokia and HTC. No mention of Samsung, the world’s leading handset supplier, lending its support to this event, though. Despite the fact that Phones 4U is also EE’s distribution partner for 4GEE, the retailer seems to be keeping quiet about the fact that only the Nokia WP8  handsets can be connected to EE’s 4GEE LTE network. M:Metrics vs GFK vs Nielsen Mobile

So, I spoke to everyone and watched the presentations from the big three metric companies. There is a lot of hype about metrics. Without blowing my own trumpet – I think that my own mobile advertising metrics done using my campaigns are pretty damn good.

I found the mobile advertising average CPM, CPC, CTR – but [...]
