Rating: Drone controlled via Wi-Fi on your smartphone

A design agency, Thumbs Up, has announced to day [April 1st 2011] its first ever concept product – a drone designed to look like an Eagle. The RC Eagle i is controllable byWi-Fi via software on an Apple iPad or iPhone. An Android version is promised for shortly afterwards. As an eco-friendly feature, the Eagle will be fitted with an on-board solar charging panel with the bird’s wings. One of the problems with similar droids – such as miniature helicopters – is that battery life is very low. Thumbs Up hopes that powering the Eagle i by the Sun will help extend flight times. Google 2D barcodes for Place Pages proves mobile barcodes are the glue for the mobile search marketplace

Google Maps update: new traffic service follows in Verizons footsteps

picture-14 Google Maps has added a particularly nifty function to its mobile service – a “traffic” button. The addition monitors traffic in your area in real time, and can advise you when it is best to take a different route. And much like the extremely similar service announced by Verizon in mid-July, it will gather the traffic data it needs from GPS-enabled devices. From you, in other words.

Google Maps for Mobile update for Symbian and Windows Mobile

google_maps_logo_small_blueGoogle has released an updated version of Google Maps for Mobile on Windows Mobile and Symbian S60 devices. The main new function of version 3.2 is called “Layers”. It allows you to layer different types of information over your Google Map. Layers include points of interest, personal maps, traffic and even your friends location from Google Latitude.
