I just saw an article on JumpTap gaining another USD 25 million in funding. I had to check the release for the date as I thought that I must be seeing things.
Why?Well, I have know JumpTap from the start and remember when the first USD 30 or so million started it off. JumpTap at that time was to be the mobile search master and take over the world.
Earlier this week, mobile ad network Jumptap announced a pretty effective land-grab in the area of rich media advertising on mobile. Rating: Nokia and RIM named as culprits
Technology originally introduced to detect the make and model of a mobile phone in order to optimise the mobile web browsing experience is now been hi-jacked by advertisers, according to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) here. Better still, two of these advertisers are mobile phone producers – Nokia and RIM, the WSJ claims. Jumptap is also name as one the mobile network advertising aggregators which is participating in such practices. Apparently the industry jargon for such a tactic is ‘intercept campaigning’.
