LTE and WiMAX won’t be co-operating any time soon - so says Smith Micro

Beginning with sending faxes over modems, Smith Micro has been a master in the realm of connectivity for three decades. The move into wireless connectivity was a logical progression for the firm - so I really wanted to talk to someone from the company and find out what the real deal is with LTE and WiMAX. Luckily for me, CMO Robert E. Elliot sat down and talked to me about the upcoming “evolved” network rollout.

There is a wild disparity in social standings across the country, to the extent that mobile operators need to cater to huge amounts of people who can’t afford more than a basic handset alongside a large audience of high-tech gadget owners. Now, despite an incomplete roll-out of 3G services across the country, plans are going ahead for 4G.

The GSMA has released figures from Wireless Intelligence which show that mobile broadband in the shape of HSPA networks are expanding fast. There are now 285 commercially operating HSPA networks,  supporting more than 167.5 million connexions.

can-of-worms Ericssons attempt to buy parts of collapsing Canadian company Nortel has opened up a huge can of worms.
