Lumia users enticed with up to £20,000/$33,500 in prize money

Finnish handset manufacturer, Nokia, appears to be making even more strenuous efforts to pump up its range of Lumia mega-cameraphones. Handsets like the Lumia 1020 and its successor, the Lumia 1050 boast a mind-boggling 41 megapixel camera. That’s not to say the cameras in other Lumia handsets aren’t up to scrathc because they are. Anyway, the handset supplier has come up in the UK with the Lumia Win Win Project. Beat the professionals using a Lumia cameraphone, and will match the prize money exactly. Although the samll print says the maximum payout is £20,000 ($33,500). Continue reading

Scoopshot CEO says brands waking up to user-generated images

Petri Rahja admits neglecting to push Nokia Lumia compatibility

The CEO of image agency Scoopshot, Petri Rahja, told GoMo News that brands are strating to wake up to the value of user-generated images. Not only are they utilising Scoopshot’s services for their marketing and advertising requirements, they are now actively commissioning ‘campaigns’ from his company . And probably one of the best examples of this was a campaign commissioned by Nokia when it launched its mega-cameraphone the Lumia 1020. Scoopshot has also just set a world record for in sourcing user-content by supplying the London Evening Standard with a requested image within three minutes. Continue reading

Take quality panoramic shots using a smartphone

All you need is the Panoramic Pod for about $26

Here’s one for the budding photographers and a great way of showcasing the full capabilities of high quality cameraphones. The site selling it in the UK (I Want One of Those) says it is “compatible with Apple and Android smartphones.” Here at GoMo Towers we think this is because there are panoramic apps available on the Apple iTunes app store (360 ) and on Google Play (Panorama: 360 by TeliportMe). We reckon that those with Nokia’s mega cameraphones like the Lumia 1020. After all the Panoramic Pod is basically a tripod with a clockwork motor in it. Continue reading

Nokia & Microsoft pull Multi Lumia Arc of Wonder stunt

Anything to promote Lumia 1020′s 41 mp camera

It’s not the first time that Nokia’s Creative Labs has pulled a stunt to publicise the fact that buried inside Lumia smartphones is a powerful 41 megapixel camera. Now – with a little help from Microsoft, the smartphone vendor has produced the ‘Multi Lumia Arc of Wonder’ in co-operation with filmmaker Paul Trillo. He created the Arc from 50 Lumia 1020 smartphones controlled by a Microsoft Surface tablet using a special app which was designed for the Windows 8 mobile platform. The venue? NYC (New York City, USA), of course. Continue reading

Making a case for the Nokia Lumia 1020

You’re going to need a bit of protection Gadget2us says

If you are going to own a smartphone with the best camera lens in the whole business – without doubt the Nokia Lumia 1020 with its 41 megapixel camera, then you’re going to need a bit of protection as the Goodfellas would say. And it’s got to be a bit snazzy to match the image of such a ‘cool device’. Which is why here at GoMo News we became interested in a story provided to us by China based Gadget2us. Phone accessories aren’t normally our bag but we were especially amused by the site’s URL. A web site selling cases for a WP8 Lumia handset from Nokia with an address which sounds like it has close associations with BlackBerry China – http://blackberry-cn.com. We guess the firm must have started out life making accessories for BlackBerries, then. Continue reading

Kaz Hirai’s One Sony motto is really working

by our Indian correspondent

Once one of the largest mobile phone brand in the mid 2000s, Sony fell to negligible market share in 2010. But starting in 2013, Sony is turning out to be a strong competitor again. This turnaround happened right after Kazou Hirai was named at Sony’s CEO in 2012. Kazou Hirai is famously known as the father of PlayStation. As soon as he was named as the CEO of Sony, he said, “We need to be a more focussed company.” he also coined the slogan – One Sony. Continue reading

A quick lesson in utilising visual media from BoothChat

The importance of being branded on social networks

Everything is going social in the mobile world these days. GoMo News just met up with Toby Britton from miappi but more about that later. More to the point, however, our old friend Patrick Smith subsequently introduced us to BoothChat. It’s a concept that is so obvious, we’re not sure why it hasn’t been done before. In essence, you upload an image or video from a cameraphone and BoothChat covers it with your logo or marketing message and then distributes it onto the major social networks. Automatically. Nokia Lumia 1020 – master of one trade

Industry reactions to Nokia’s latest WP8 offering

What is Nokia playing at? It has just released the mother of all cameraphones with a list of specifications that camera buffs would cream their jeans over. But how wide appeal does such a specialist device have? Will it really help to build the Lumia brand for Nokia so that consumers decide to opt for a Windows Phone 8 handset rather than something offered by Apple or Samsung? We think not. The only advantage we can see is that it will work on all of the UK’s 4G networks. Continue reading
