Locations ousts branding in rich media mobile ads, says Celtra
Rating: 45 per cent of such ads now feature video, too
An interesting new development in the rich media mobile ads sector has been discovered by Celtra in its quarterly Mobile Rich Media Monitor report. Apparently, location-based features have now overtaken branding and presentation as the most engaging ad feature. Location now boasts an 18.8 per cent engagement rate. By comparison, the average ad engagement rate was 13.7 per cent in Q3, nearly a one per cent increase over Q2. Adding gaming features (or gamification) can in second place after location with a 13.9 per cent engagement rate Perhaps the most interesting statistic was that was that nearly half (45 per cent) of all the mobile advertising campaigns analysed by Celltra featured video. Apple still hanging onto its mobile ads lead says Velti
Rating: Publishers may reduce time lag twixt iOS and Android app releases
Velti has been mining data from the mobile advertising it aggregates across over 40 ad networks. Figures for its July ‘State of Mobile Advertising’ report, show that Apple’s share of the smartphone and tablet sector is holding up against Android.
Apple devices currently claim 58 per cent of total in-app ad impressions, for example. However, its share is slipping arguably because Apple fanboys are awaiting the launch of the iPhone 5 next month [September 2012]. As Krishna Subramanian, CMO with Velti, points out, “We should also bear in mind that figures from IDC have indicated that 68 per cent of all smartphones shipped in 2012 have been Android models.” Continue reading
Bitdefender discovers that most iOS users are at risk from data leaks

Ever wondered how many apps are downloading your private information without informing you? Pondered how great a risk there is of personal data leaks via apps? These questions have obviously bothered Bitdefender, the security specialist. For some reason, the company decided to look at the risk posed by iOS apps only. Which is curious because Bitdefender has an offering for Android but not for iOS at present. Anyway the company conducted a month-long study of more than 65,000 iPhone apps. Guess what? Mobile advertising sees tremendous growth says BuzzCity
Rating: Market in UK grew by 157% in 1 year
The latest quarterly (Q1 2012) report from BuzzCity which tracks performance across its own global mobile advertising network has come in with impressive figures for market expansion. The UK showed strong growth during Q1 2012 with 23 per cent but over the year it grew by a commendable 157 per cent. Significantly, the number of smartphones active on the BuzzCity network has also grown. Smartphones now account for more than 32 per cent of phones that are served ads across the BuzzCity mobile ad network. Out of these, handsets from Apple, BlackBerry, Samsung and HTC continued to grow. RIM’s BlackBerry continues to make a strong showing despite its bad Press. Continue reading

These has been something of a mini boom in travel-related mobile ad campaigns being carried over the Greystripe network. The sector has grown some 49.2 per cent in the past 12 months. So the company thought it had better commission a survey on the subject – the results of which have just been released. Not surprisingly, the survey showed that nearly all touch smartphone and tablet users use their device while travelling. Apple just pips Nokia on InMobi ad network
Rating: Android leading OS in Europe, tho
For the first time ever, Apple’s handset have nudged passed Nokia’s as the most popular hardware for InMobi to deliver its ads to (in Europe). The company’s figures for Q2 2011 show that 2 billion plus ad impressions were served on Apple devices in Europe. That means that one of every five ads served by InMobi across Europe is now on Apple manufactured devices. However, if you break the figures down by mobile OS, then Android is clearly in the lead with almost 25 per cent while Apple’s iOS takes second with 19.5 per cent.
