MWC: when is an application an advertisment? When it’s Canvas, the facebook app from mobile IM master Colibria
When Colibiria announced the Canvas application for Facebook in early Febraury, GoMo News reported on it. But I have to admit that I didn’t get it what it’s really about. It’s a Facebook application that allows you to access your mobile contacts list from the social network itself. You can send them SMS or IM them, and use VoIP to call them (see the full report here). At the time I pondered about how much money its possible for an operator to recoup by sneaking their core functions into an on-line social network… but that’s not really what this service is for. This service is really a massive advertisement for Colibrias Rich Communications Suite (RCS).
Cheap, useful mobile phones from Synchronica - function is more important than form
GoMo News has been following Synchronica for a long time now - mainly as a provider of mobile email services for extremely low-tech phones. But the company has kicked it up to the next level today, with the announcement of MessagePhones. Rather than just release cheap messaging services for low-tech phones, Synchronica has released two devices specially designed to take advantage of new, low-cost mobile messaging options.
For those who want to make mobile calls from Facebook, Colibria presents Canvas
Here’s an interesting convergence - messaging expert Colibria has launched a Facebook application that will allow users of the social network to call and message their mobile contacts right from Facebook.

Mobile app from DiVitas hits all the major smartphones with “enterprise social networking”
Mobile unified communications (UC) company DiVitas today released its application for all the major smartphones. Aimed squarely at enterprises, DiVitas long ago abandoned the notion that a company would buy phones for it’s employees. The application assumes that everyone will have their own phone. It works to ensure that every single person in a single business is easily contactable through a variety of channels at any one time, not matter which phone they have.

Another mobile application tops 10 million downloads over GetJar
It seems that announcing when you’ve hit 10 million on GetJar is “the thing” to do. Well ok, I would too. It’s pretty impressive. The latest to announce this accomplishment is mobile IM and chat client mig33. A large part of this success can be attributed to Pay Per Download - a GetJar program that allows developers to bid for better placement on the GetJar site.
