question-mark China Mobiles mobile application store is an interesting showcase of how an operator can manage mobile apps. The on-line and mobile store doesn’t just push apps designed for the China Mobile network. It integrates searches of already existing app stores for the different device manufacturers whose phones it carries. Yesterdays launch of the store was met with… wait a second, where’s the store?

dellmobile5Pictures and information about Dells long-awaited mobile device have finally surfaced. Rumours about a Dell smartphone have been floating about since 2007. Dell fueled the fire itself this year, with CEO Michael Dell talking about a possible MID or smartphone. One week ago, TechCrunch broke the rumour that we might see a Chinese launch within days. Sure enough, 7 days later we’ve got a Dell phone in China - and much to everyone’s disappointment it seems to be a 2G device.

Motorola cuts mobile jobs - but it’s time to cut out completely

motorola-logo1 Motorola announced further job cuts this week. Another 74 jobs lost might not seem much compared to the 7,500 that have gone since October. But these jobs have been cut in Libertyville, the home of Motorolas mobile devices unit. And that facility has lost 500 jobs already.

Vodafone predicted to win in Turkey and lose in Italy in coming mobile slowdown

vodafoneTwo interesting new studies into the future of the mobile market caught my eye today. Research and Markets released metrics forecasts for mobile operators in both Italy and Turkey. The predictions show a serious slowdown in the market. While overall numbers are pipped to increase, the growth will be small. And Vodafone, the worlds largest operator by turnover, is forecast to win in Turkey and lose in Italy.

Is Nokia launching a Symbian app store at WMC?

According to Russian blogger Eldar Murtazin, Nokia has a mobile application store running on closed beta. The rumour has spread like crazy today. Nokia already has downloads available from Mosh, the Download Store and Nokia Software Market. Speculation runs that the new store may be a consolidated front for all of these services and more.
