Two biggest names in their fields come together
Visa and Samsung have joined forces in a bid to accelerate user adoption of mobile money along with the take-up of NFC ‘tap-and-pay’ technology. The Visa Samsung global alliance signals the first of its kind between a leading NFC handset manufacturer and payment organisation. Under the deal, Samsung will preload Visa’s pay Wave app on to its NFC smartphones, making it easier for consumers and financial institutions to link their new handsets to their bank accounts. As the GSMA quite rightly admits, as a technology NFC (Near Field Communication) has been around for quite some time now. So the GSMA has created a seperate show for NFC – the NFC & Mobile Money Summit. GoMobile News remembers writing about NFC when the MWC was still held in Cannes, not Barcelona. Anyway, all the signs are that NFC is going to follow in Bluetooth’s footsteps and become almost universal cellular handsets. What the GSMA picked up upon is that leading mobile operators, representing over 60 per cent of the global mobile subscribers, have committed NFC technology. Verizon teams with Payfone for new mobile payment services – but they are not so seamless as implied
Verizon Wireless and Payfone, a leading mobile payment processing service, today announced the companies are working together to bring a new mobile payment system to Verizon Wireless customers. When available, the service will allow Verizon Wireless customers to make online purchases from their smartphones, tablets and PCs using numerous payment methods, including charging purchases to their monthly wireless statements or using traditional payment methods through financial institution partners.
