Mobile proves itself as a news media platform: Verve reports its 2009 figures

Posted by Cian on Feb 4, 2010 12:59

woman_reading_newspaper Verve Wireless is a company that really interests me, personally. It straddles the border between mobile media and news media, creating customised mobile apps for local media companies including TV stations, newspapers and radio stations. As a former newspaper employee, I’ve always felt that mobile is a great direction for news to go in. And the readership figures that Verve Wireless is racking up show that it is a viable channel.

Posted by Cian on Dec 16, 2009 18:01

The Guardian shows it’s really serious about mobile media with iPhone application

Posted by Cian on Dec 14, 2009 14:54

picture-21The Guardian is one of those newspapers that has always made a great effort when it comes to on-line stories and media. You could rely on the Guardian to spread the word about emerging technologies, online behavior and amusing memes to those who were less likely to encounter them on-line. And now it is moving further towards new media with a brand spanking new iPhone app. How have they done? Pretty damn good.

Posted by Cian on Nov 5, 2009 23:30

woman_reading_newspaperMaybe one of the biggest success stories in publishing news content on mobile is AP Mobile. The mobile channel of the worldwide Associated Press news network, AP Mobile has over 1,000 local news sources on board. The app has been downloaded by over 2.4 million people, and AP claims that over 55 million mobile stories are read each month. Now the company has decided to make some money from the experience it has gained in mobile. In a partnership with Verve Wireless (another giant of local mobile news), the companies will be selling a “white label” mobile application creation service to make mobilizing easier for local news outlets.
