Condé Nast International leads $20m investment in farfetch
Rating: Obviously should use the money for mobile presence
There’s no mention of it in the Press blurb but GoMobile News reckons that the e–commerce site, fartech, desperately needs investment in mobile to stay ahead of the game. It has a very poor mobile presence, yet gaily describes itself as the world’s leading e-commerce marketplace for independent fashion boutiques. Anyway, the well-known fashion mag publisher, Condé Nast International, has just led a $20 million investment in farfetch. By contrast to farfetch, Condé Nast has over 100 websites and more than170 tablet and smartphone apps under iconic brands such as Vogue, GQ, Glamour, and Wired. We only found farfetch’s mobile version by luck. Continue reading
FTSE 100 companies still failing to take advantage of the mobile technology
Rating: mPowa and Incentivated think they may have the answers
Google has recently suggested that 50 per cent of all internet searches will be undertaken via mobile devices in 2013. Yet most major company web sites fail to support mobile technology. A recent survey carried out by Incentivated show that 69 per cent of FTSE 100 companies have failed to take any steps to ensure that their websites are compatible with mobile devices. Consequently there are simple problems relating to font size and difficult navigation which would be quite simple to fix. “Given that substantial revenues are generated through digital channels, it really is bewildering that so many blue chip companies are stuck in the Dark Ages when it comes to how they interact with their customers,” observed Dan Wagner, CEO with mPowa. He claims that retailers who fail to capture sales whenever and wherever the consumer is ready to buy, will suffer severely in the fiercely competitive landscape in the UK. Continue reading
Internet World attendees survey show ambiguous attitude towards mobile
Rating: Affilinet finds not everyone is optimising for mobile
A quick straw poll taken at the recent Internet World 2012 show in London by affilinet revealed that respondents were split down the middle when asked if in the future they would invest more in mobile rather than online and offline. encouragingly, 65 per cent of respondents stated that they believed mobile, online and offline all have a role to play in the future of marketing due to the importance of being able to ensure they’re reaching consumers at all stages of their purchasing journey. However, the research shows that whilst the intention is there to immerse themselves in mobile, there is still some way for organisations to go before they get there. Gary Bicker, UK country manager with afilinet, said, “Whilst online and offline remain important for the time being, in the future the indication is that spend will increasingly be diverted to mobile.” Continue reading

Rating: Compuware’s survey reveals the mobile web is disappointment
An independent survey of more than 4,000 global users worldwide (including 500 from the UK) has been carried out by Compuware to understand consumers’ mobile web and application expectations and experiences. Entitled simply ‘What Users Want from Mobile’, the study reveals that global mobile users’ expectations are not being met. eBay buys Magento, complements its mobile strategy
eBay has made another acquisition today, in the form of ecommerce provider Magento (which is a bit too close to Magneto for me to be entirely comfortable with). While Magento has a pretty broad remit in terms of electronic commerce, we’re more interested in what it does on mobile, and it will mean for eBay. Continue reading
Mobile advertisers should pay attention to the time of day
A little nugget of research got pushed through to me today from German mobile advertiser apprupt. We’ve covered this advertiser quite a few times in the past – its evolution has taken it from being an affiliate application store, to a multi-channel advertiser that shifts applications through Germany’s most popular mobile media sites. Today, it reveals some interesting info about how German mobile Internet usage waxes and wanes during the day. Continue reading
