Not content to simply have the GRAMMY music awards on the weekend, CBS has an entire week of programming. GRAMMY week is seven days worth of events leading up the music awards - and at the end you get to watch the largest music promotional event in the US on television. But app developer Diversion Media wants more than that, and is releasing the first official GRAMMY iPhone application.

napster-incWait, what - the Napster? Yes, they are still around. And they are making serious moves in mobile commerce and content. At the Mobile Commerce World event in San Francisco today, Brad Duea, President of Napster spoke at length about music and commerce in mobile. He was interviewed by Tom Wills, Senior Analyst from the Security, Fraud & Compliance division of Javelin Strategy. It’s a great interview - Brad addresses problems with operators, billing, licensing and labels. He also spoke about the differences between Napster and other big mobile music services like Spotify and Pandora.

google-audioIf rumours being churned out today are true, then Google is making some pretty aggressive moves into the digital music market. The company is pegged to be releasing a music search-and-purchase service, for both on-line and mobile, called either “Google Audio” or “Google Music” depending on where you read. And with apparently official screenshots of the service being sent out by Google, we have to wonder whether is speculation at all.

colorful-music-notes-cutout Pop/dance duo Mini Viva are in a deal with MediaCom and AdMob to use the iPhone to push their single. “Left My Heart in Tokyo” is the groups debut single, and is being targeted at consumers between 13 and 24. AdMob will be running a “click to download” campaign across their iPhone and iPod Touch network.

nokia-meh Nokia released a triple-whammy of news today. First is a new, slightly smaller version of the N97 called the (wait for it) N97 mini. I know, brilliant. Second is a new series of music focused mobile devices. And finally is a new social networking feature developed with Facebook called Lifecasting.

orange-logo Orange has announced a significant overhaul of its on-portal music offering. Music downloads for both on-line and mobile Web users will have no DRM. The Orange Music Portal now offers over 700,000 tracks that users will be able to pay for, download and then do with as they please.
