Bosch enters the race for in-car sat nav apps

Bosch, a company better known for its automotive and industrial technology and consumer goods, has launched a mobile sat nav app for Apple iOS users in the UK.

Key features include ‘Intermediate Destinations’, which allows users to make a quick detour en-route, perhaps to stop at a service station or restaurant, without affecting the original destination when travel is resumed. Continue reading

Mobile navigation: Renault releases white-label app from ALK

CoPilot is what you might call the “high end” of the mobile navigation market. While there are numerous free applications for mobile navigation available, most of them are cloud-hosted – you need a stable data connection to access them. CoPilot (created by ALK) is a series of fully downloadable navigation apps that work regardless of connectivity. Feed the poor from your mobile with Foursquare and Waze

Navigation can be part of every application with TeleNav

TeleNav is one of the solid names of the mobile navigation world. Founded in 1999, it has been dedicated to mobile navigation since before it was fashionable. Products from the company have been pre-loaded onto huge numbers of Sprint devices, and are available through operator partners including AT&T and T-Mobile. Absolutely free turn-by-turn nav for iPhones from Navmii

Rating: Android version due shortly

It’s normal to associate absolutely free apps with the Android market, but here’s one for the iPhone fraternity. And it’s genuinely useful. The app in question is NavFree from Navmii which offers turn-by-turn Navigation for iPhones and the iPad at absolutely no cost. Perhaps the only catch is that it is currently only available for the UK & Ireland, but the USA and Europe should be available soon. SingTel shows future of mobile navigation with Telmap

Ovi Places: Mobile Navigation needs to knock down its brick walls

When Ovi Maps launched at the start of this year, it really shook up the navigation industry. The free software gave everyone with access to Nokia’s Ovi Store a perfectly serviceable Personal Navigation Device (PND), completely for free.
