French mobile ads specialist Sam4Mobile in UK launch

Rating: Hires David Schruers as UK general manager

David Schruers, a veteran of the London digital advertising industry, has been named general manager of Sam4Mobile UK. It’s all part of the French company’s move into the UK. Schruers was previously head of media at London-based digital agency Essence. Prior to that, he spent more than a decade in the IPG family, with Mediabrands. He was the md for Cadreon. Schruers was the head of online at Initiative, and a digital account director at Universal McCann. He began his career at media21, one of the UK’s first digital media agencies. Continue reading

Strange cold calls of our time – from vFinance

Rating: Why does a NYC company call Brit mobiles?

This has got to be more than just a co-incidence. GoMo News‘ Brit HQ is currently situated in a leafy suburb of London [in Surrey]. Yet two residents of this village received calls from the same New York telephone number to our cellular phones within 60 seconds of each other. Exactly the same thing happened to both of us, the incoming call disconnected before we could answer. Naturally, we suspected a scam but the number isn’t a premium rate service – it is a regular fixed line (we think). It could, of course, we a bizarre denial of service attack on the operator of the call centre. We’ll have to wait to see if anybody else reports the same attack. Continue reading

iPhone app for those in NYC with more money than sense

Rating: If you need to ask the download price, it’s not for you

We can’t be absolutely sure but iVIP NYC from iVIPprobably has the dubious honour of being the most expensive app in the Apple iTunes App Store at £99.99. What does it do? Well, it’s the second iteration of a city specific iPhone app for ‘V.I.P.s’ who are going to be visiting or reside in NYC, USA. It apparently gives the iPhone user access to exclusive benefits and privileges across New York City – including The Chatwal Hotel, Michael’s Restaurant, and Water’s Edge. (The Watersedge is a housing estate down where GoMo News lives, tee-hee.) Anyway, you’re supposed to be impressed and therefore download it. Continue reading
