GetJar responds to IDGA rant vs Amazon
Rating: Apparently, all’s not fair …
The International Game Developers Association (IDGA) has recently written an open letter to online app store Amazon about unfair pricing practices on Amazon App store. It can be found here. The letter says, “The IGDA has significant concerns about Amazon’s current Appstore distribution terms and the negative impact they may have on the game development community, and we urge developers to educate themselves on the pros and cons of submitting content to Amazon. Rating: Subscriptions are a good thing – mostly
“Subscription is a good thing because it allows publishers to monetize in a way that maximizes user value,” commented Patrick Mork, GetJar‘s CMO. It’s also a good thing because it gives publishers “the flexibility to charge consumers based on their preferences – i.e. one time payment versus cheaper periodic payments.” Subscription is also good for publishers since it allows them generate recurring billing which is more profitable for their bottom line. GetJar converts downloads to users for Flirtomatic
Rating: Plus it’s doing well with inspiring Android downloads, too
Some amazing figures from GetJar which maintains it is the the world’s second largest app store after iTunes. It has achieved a remarkable 70 per cent conversion rate using its Pay-Per-Download (PPD) solution on behalf of its customer – Flirtomatic. As the name implies, Flirtomatic is an online dating service aimed at 18-30 year olds. The company decided it needed to go global and with GetJar’s help, it is doing just that. Besides helping with conversions, GetJar is drumming up downloads for the Android version of Flirtomatic’s app. In July [2010], GetJar generated 19 per cent of all Flirtomatic’s Android downloads.
