Next Tizen showcase in China not Russia

And the Samsung Z has a Qualcomm not an Intel processor

It seems that the The Tizen Developer Conference held this week [June 2014] in San Francisco, USA was such a success they’ve decided to hold another one. The 2nd Tizen Developer Summit 2014 will be held in Shanghai, China some time in October [2014]. That’s about as much information as is currently available. So keep looking here. To GoMo News this seems a rather odd choice of location given that about that time the Samsung Z – the first ever handset running Tizen, will actually go on sale in Russia. Why not hold it in Moscow? Cellular only 32% of data consumed on smartphones says Mobidia

However, 4G users are buying larger data plans

4G subscribers consumed dramatically larger amounts of data than 3G subscribers for the 100 plus MNOs [Mobile Network Operators] who have already installed LTE. However, Wi-fi continues to be a primary means of connectivity for smartphone subscribers, both 3G and 4G. Only 32% of data consumed on smartphones is via cellular. These are some of the crucial findings revealed in a White Paper entitled ‘Understanding Today’s Smartphone Users‘, created by Mobidia Technology, a leading provider of mobile usage data, in collaboration with Informa, a leading London-based analyst firm. Investment fund in line for tenth of shares in MegaFon IPO

Russian telecoms group MegaFon’s listing on the London Stock Market appears back on track with a large global investment fund already placing an order for more than a tenth of the shares on offer.
MegaFon, owned by Russia’s richest man Alisher Usmanov who also has a major stake in Arsenal football club, hopes to raise between $1.7 billion and $2.3 billion (£1.06 billion and £1.44 billion) through the sale, valuing the business at up to to $14 billion. Continue reading

Russian phone giant Megafon aims to raise $2bn on London market

IPO follows similar cash-raising move by Spain’s Telefonica

MegaFon, Russia’s second largest mobile phone company by customers, is likely to float on London’s stock market this year in a bid to raise $2 billion through the listing of a fifth of its shares. The company, owned by Russia’s richest man Alisher Usmanov, is said to have already been given the green light for the IPO which will also see it simultaneously listed on the Moscow exchange. It is expected to make a formal statement on the IPO in the next few weeks with the deal taking place either later this month or early December, before capital markets wind down for the end of the year.
